Statement of Intent.

The view I have of my work is not necessarily the view that I want the audience to have. I intentionally look for objects that can have many interpretations. Often a piece will focus on one simple object. Sometimes the subject is very simple and direct. Other times the object consists of a less definite shape that has enough detail to seem like an obvious subject. A less obvious subject might be a shape that could mimic an image of a fruit, a ship, or a container all with one simple shape. These more ambiguous images are more like inkblots that often tell more about the viewer than about my intentions. The work often comes from personal experiences and I am not concerned if someone misinterprets the point of my work entirely, I just hope to make images with enough detail and mystery that the viewer will want to look for the intention behind each of them. I want my work to be accessible and enjoyable to those who know very little about art as well as those who are more involved with art.

BIOGRAPHY

I graduated with a BFA in painting from Western Kentucky University in 1999. I live with my wife LeeAnn and daughters Josie & Macie in Statesboro, GA and keep a studio in both Statesboro, GA and Buffalo, KY. I've been creating and selling paintings since grade school. In high school, art became my after school job when I was painting and drawing portraits, architectural drawings, and occasional landscapes. As the site shows, my work has changed since then and currently I have paintings in about 400 private, corporate, and museum collections throughout the US, Europe, and the Middle East. I have participated in over 90 Exhibitions. In the past I would exhibit in about a dozen shows per year along with two or three solo exhibitions. For the past four years, I had cut back on shows while pursuing an MBA in Entrepreneurship at the University of Louisville, and helping the city of Hodgenville, KY prepare for the National 2008 Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial events. I am now working as a visual artist again, and also as the Director of Main Street Statesboro and Downtown Statesboro Development Authority in Statesboro, GA. I am back in the studio and have again begun to produce work for gallery exhibitions and shows.
